Adult Forum: Exploring the Spiritual Life
The Adult Forum will continue with its theme Faith. The Adult Forum is a seminar, with time allowed for free discussion. Currently, the group is discussing Francis Collins' book "Belief." The book covers reasons for rational belief as expressed by many individual writers over time. It is especially relevant to those troubled by questions concerning the case for atheism and others with skeptical notions.
Discussions will be facilitated by Mr. Dean Lewis. If you wish to attend the Adult Forum, please contact Dean at deanlewis@gmail.com or stop by the library!
EfM @ St. James'
Education for Ministry (EfM) is an opportunity to share our faith, along with fun, food, and fellowship. EfM seminars deepen our faith and our understanding of our Christian heritage, provide us with new confidence to be Christ's ministers, teach us how to think theologically, and provide us with a small group of supporters throughout the process. Seminars, facilitated by trained mentors, are being held during the school year on Sunday evenings from 5 to 7:30 pm downstairs in the Education Building. Participants commit one year at a time to study the Bible, church history, and twentieth century theology. EfM is a distance-learning program of the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Completion of the entire EfM program takes four years, and there is a cost for each year. Continuing education credits are also available. Participants do not need to be from St. James' or even Episcopalians. For more information, please contact Linda Stewart - lstewart1563@gmail.com or Marjie Mack - mmack3108@comcast.net.
Goodness Gracious Bible Study
An application-oriented study (not as yet decided), based on biblical principals for living. Finding inspiration through discovering about the character of God and His relationship with His creation, right down to each one of us. Be ready to be surprised, find relevance, lots of humor, and practical help for facing those every day situations. This course is appropriate for women of any age and stage who are drawn to learn more about the absolute relevance between the amazingly exciting biblical stories, characters, and promises of old, to our hectic and often confusing everyday lives and relationships today.
The class length is 2 hours and will be on a Monday 12-2 pm. The course will be 6-8 weeks in length. Please check The Shell for dates and more information.
For additional information please contact Nan Lewis - nanwlewis@gmail.com.
Inquirer's Class
Everything you always wanted to know about The Episcopal Church and were afraid to ask! Bill Ticknor+ is planning to hold several meetings for us to get together to explore your questions and thoughts regarding the Church. If you are interested in being a part of this discussion group, please speak to him of your interests, so that together we can schedule the time and day of our classes. Hopefully this will be enlightening and quite fun.
Advent Conspiracy
The story of Christ's birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love. So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists.
And when it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas? What if Christmas became a world-changing event again? Welcome to Advent Conspiracy.
Classes will be on Tuesday evenings beginning November 22, 2011.
